Physiology is the science of physical, mechanical & biochemical functions in humans, their organs and the cells of which they are composed.

The Department of Physiology, Apollo School of Medicine, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, has full fledged infrastructure, equipment, qualified and experienced teaching staff as per the MCI.

The infrastructure facility include a spacious AC lecture hall with all the audiovisual equipments, OHP &LCDs, well equipped separate laboratories for Haematology, Clinical Physiology, Experimental Physiology, Mammalian Physiology, Research lab, Departmental Library, Demonstration room, Seminar room, Staff rooms. Didactic lectures, practical sessions & demonstrations supported by enriched learning methods such as tutorials, small group discussions, seminars, problem oriented analytical approaches will be practised to optimize the learning experience.

Students in small groups will be allotted to individual staff members for regular monitoring of their academic progress all through out the year. Besides the regular internal examinations, there will be student assignments, seminars, quiz, system completion tests etc for better University results.

Biochemistry is a fundamental branch in medical school which deals with diseases at molecular level and it also explains all the chemical processes taking place in living cells.

The department of Biochemistry, Apollo School Of Medicine is also attached to the clinical laboratory of the hospital. The main goal of Apollo Medical School is to inculcate quality education to all students with the help of efficient and experienced faculty. The department has also well equipped undergraduate and research laboratories.

We train the students in theory by delivering lectures supported by latest audio-visual aids.In the undergraduate laboratory students perform various chemical tests which are clinically correlated by the faculty.Students are evaluated regularly by conducting seminars,viva-voce exams,quiz,slip tests and internal tests. To strengthen the students learning process the department conducts mentoring activities like monitoring , analyzing students performance later counselling and guiding them to improve their academics. One of the faculty members is incharge of 25 students headed by professor of SPM.

The department of Pharmacology, Apollo School of Medicine plans to provide the best in undergraduate education.

It contains of two main laboratories for clinical & experimental Pharmacology. Latest equipments are provided with a view to impart the best possible for MBBS students. Keeping in mind, the fast evolving science of Pharmacology, the museum is equipped with drug samples, charts, crude drug samples, herb specimens, instruments (relevant) and simulators.

The research room has modern equipment and has its specification, basic and clinical. Former looks into animal experimentation and the other into clinical trials as per GCP guidelines.

The Central Animal house works under the department of Pharmacology with facilities for animal operation and experimentation. It is registered and the institute has Animal Ethics Committee.

The department will have drug and poison information centre to provide information regarding drug/poison and their management. The Pharmacovigilance services are also planned giving scope for interactions between physicians, faculty and also students.

The Department of Pathology takes utmost care to provide diagnostic services to patients and conduct educational activities for professionals in order to update their knowledge and skills. The Department has various sections viz., Hematology, Clinical Pathology, Histopathology and Cytopathology

Medical Microbiology is a branch of medicine concerned primarily with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infectious diseases.

Activities of the department include:

1. Scientific and administrative direction of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory.
2. Establishment and direction of Hospital infection control program.
   Public health and communicable disease prevention.
3. A sound knowledge of microbiology gives students a foundation in the diagnosis and management of infectious diseases. Microbiology is an ever-expanding science and includes various branches like bacteriology, immunology, virology, parasitology and mycology.

The Department of Microbiology is commited to administer robust training programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate medical students and science students from other disciplines.

M.B.B.S. students can expect to be given complete knowledge of contagious diseases in order to deal with the etiology, mode of spread, pathogenesis, laboratory diagnosis, treatment, control and prevention of infections in the community.

The training programs include lectures supported by latest audio-visual aids and practical classes. Regular assessments for students like seminars, viva-voce sessions, quiz and written tests ensure progress in their coursework.

The department is also involved in Medical research and in supervision of research projects of medical students.

Other activities of department include :
a) Attending bedside rounds and interacting with physicians.

b) Participating in seminars and CME programs.

Forensic medicine and science is a multidisciplinary subject which brings together most of the branches of medicine and science. The investigation of death and crime requires three elements: good science, accurate interpretation of findings and appropriate presentation. These three aspects will be illustrated using case studies.Forensic medicine gains prominence when ethical issues arise regarding the nature of death. It provides evidence that helps magistrates and juristic officials differentiate between natural, accidental death, murder and suicide.

The objective of the Department of Forensic Medicine, Apollo Medical College Hospital & Research Centre is to ensure that a medical graduate be able to investigate the nature of death with greater clarity, aided by substantial basic knowledge of medicine headed by well experienced teaching faculty.

Public Health & Preventive Medicine is a branch of medicine concerned with the health of populations. The Public Health & Preventive Medicine specialist uses population health knowledge and skills to play leading and collaborative roles in the maintenance and improvement of the health and well-being of the community. Through interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral partnerships, the Public Health & Preventive Medicine specialist measures the health needs of populations and develops strategies for improving health and well-being, through health promotion, disease prevention and health protection.

The Public Health & Preventive Medicine specialist demonstrates skills in leadership, development of public policy, and the design, implementation and evaluation of health programs, and applies them to a broad range of community health issues.

The Public Health & Preventive Medicine specialist can engage in a number of careers, for example:

• The practice of public health at a local, regional, national or international level.
• The planning and administration of health services, whether in institutions or in government.
• Community-oriented clinical practice with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention.
• The assessment and control of occupational and environmental health problems.
• Teaching and research.

This department is managed by experienced teaching and non teaching staff for the benefit of community at large. It caters to a wide variety of patients and is manned by students of health sciences and research scholars.

The Department of Medicine caters to a large volume of out patients. This department also conducts educational programs for faculty members to strengthen their cognitive, psychomotor and affective skills.

And for their well being, the department of Pediatric Medicine conducts regular patient care services in addition to the immunization clinic, well baby clinic, child guidance clinic and nutrition clinic. The facilities such as neonatal intensive care and neonatal nursery are an additional attraction for those involved in patient care, teaching, training and research.

The ophthalmology department carries out in patient and out patient services in addition to field work. The national program on blindness prevention is executed successfully in this center by qualified Ophthalmologists.
